Fish Consumption Advisory

We developed a fish advisory consumption booklet that warned South Carolina fishermen of the dangers of mercury in fish and the limitations on their consumption.

MARS BLUFF

We organized opposition against a proposed landfill in the Mars Bluff section of Florence County, SC by coordinating protests, press conferences and meetings with the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control to stop plans that would have negatively impacted the quality of life.

Busch Recycling Plant

With help from the Environmental Protection Agency in Atlanta, GA and the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, we convinced the City of Florence to test grounds at the Busch Recycling Plant before proceeding with plans to include it as part of the Downtown Florence Revitalization District.

Trinity Evangelical Presbyterian Church

In Quilmes, Argentina, we assisted churches in establishing quilting businesses for low income women during a mission trip in partnership with Trinity Evangelical Presbyterian Church. We taught women how to create their own jobs with the donation of sewing machines. The effort helped families earn incomes during a national banking crisis.

DURBAN, SOUTH AFRICA

We presented papers on the spread of AIDS/HIV along the Triangle Trade Route at the United Nations Conference Against Racism and Xenophobia and encouraged diplomats to amend the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as representatives for the Southeast U.S.

SANTEE COOPER

We convinced the energy supplier to pursue clean energy initiatives and not construct its proposed $1.35 billion, 1,320-megawatt pulverized coal plant along the Pee Dee River in South Carolina following our study that showed the project would be over cost and generate half the proposed jobs.

GREENING OUR COMMUNITIES

We organized this New York City networking mixer hosted by the National Wildlife Federation that brought together urban community leaders working for greener, cleaner neighborhoods. It provided an opportunity to build connections among leaders working on local, state and national issues.

Noor Al Hussein Foundation (JORDAN)

In our meetings with the Noor Al Hussein Foundation, we discussed trade opportunities between small businesses there and in America. The Foundation was interested in cooperatives for low income traders that produce items such as dead sea-salt soap, furniture and clothing to help bridge the trade gap between their nation and the U.S.

National Wildlife Federation

As part of a South Carolina delegation in Washington D.C. we encouraged support of Clean Energy Jobs and the American Power Act, having met with representatives for Senator Lindsay Graham and Congressman James E. Clyburn and Jon Spratt for a push away from coal fire electric plants to clean energy; wind, solar, bio-fuel, and electric power to create new jobs.
